As a young girl and teen, I felt the pressure to be thinner. While I spent my adolescence feeling alone, now I understand that whether you’re struggling with weight concerns, your relationship with food, or a negative body image you are not alone and neither was I.
For me, the feeling that I needed to lose weight intensified in high school when I fell into a chaotic cycle of dieting and disliking my body. Here are a few of the ways that dieting took over my life:
- I compulsively weighed myself every morning, and the number on the scale decided how I felt about myself and how I ate for the day.
- I thought about food all day long. I planned out every meal and snack, kept mental logs of what I had already eaten, and dreamed about the food I wouldn’t let myself touch.
- I was intensely jealous and resentful of my friends who let themselves enjoy all types of food.
- I was always adding new rules and restrictions for my diet, and when I inevitably broke one, the guilt was crushing.
I’ve heard stunningly similar stories from over a thousand past clients who have spent their lives on and off diets — but I’m here to tell you that you don’t need to punish and restrict yourself any longer.
The problem wasn’t my body, my hunger, or my lack of willpower — the problem was restriction and dieting. It was restriction that made me obsess over food and my body, and all that obsessing just made me more and more unhappy and unhealthy.
So how did I stop obsessing? I discovered Intuitive Eating. Over time, I gradually learned to give up my food rules and trust my mind and body instead. I stopped feeling resentful of my hunger, and started nourishing myself fully. I threw out my scale and decided to pay more attention to how my body feels to measure progress instead. I rediscovered the joy of eating all kinds of delicious foods. I became fully present while doing the things I love, like spending time with friends and family.
I became free.
My journey to giving up dieting took courage, persistence, and lots of support — and now I’m here to be that guide and support system for you. I’m deeply passionate about helping people get off the diet roller coaster and heal their relationship with food. Using the principles of Intuitive Eating, my mission is to help people find peace and balance around food so they can stop dieting and start living their fullest lives.
