Financial FAQs
Can I use my FSA or HSA for payment?
Yes! You can use your Flexible Spending Account or Health Saving Account for payment. We also accept credit card and Venmo.
Do you take insurance?
We are in-network with Cigna and Aetna! If you are in-network with either of these insurance companies, we encourage you to call them directly to understand your benefits for nutrition counseling. We'd also be happy to help with verification of benefits.
At this time, we are out-of-network with all other insurance companies.
Can I still get coverage from my insurance for sessions with Silver Street Nutrition if I don't have Cigna?
Yes! We can provide you with a Superbill (detailed receipt) for each session to submit to insurance for reimbursement. In many cases, out-of-network benefits provide partial or full coverage for the cost of our sessions.
How do I find out if my insurance company provides out-of-network benefits?
To determine whether your insurance company will reimburse for our sessions, you should contact them directly. Follow these simple steps:
- Call your insurance by using the member services phone number that is (typically) on the back of your insurance card
- When prompted, say “I want to speak with the benefits department”
- Here are a few questions to ask:
”Does my insurance plan offer out-of-network benefits?”
“Is Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) a covered out-of-network benefit on my plan?”
NOTE: You can also specify the procedure codes (also called CPT codes) - 97802 for the initial session and 97803 for follow up sessions. - If you do have MNT benefits, consider asking:
“What amount of the fee will insurance cover?”
“What is my deductible, and how much of the deductible have I met?”
“Are there any restrictions, such as number of visits or specific diagnoses?”
NOTE: Some insurance companies only cover certain ”diagnosis codes.” We cannot provide you with a diagnosis code before the initial appointment. However, if you have been diagnosed with an eating disorder or a nutrition condition (like diabetes, high blood pressure, IBS…etc), you can ask the clinician who provided you with that diagnosis for the “ICD 10 code.” Then, you can ask your insurance about coverage for that specific code.
We are also happy to communicate with your insurance company, or provide any information to better guarantee coverage!
Do you offer a sliding scale payment policy?
We'd hate for the cost to get in the way of anyone's care and well-being, so we reserve a sliding scale policy for a few of available client slots. The policy offers multiple discounted payment rates and we trust you to decide which tier is doable for you. No questions asked and absolutely no judgement. Send an email to laura@silverstreetnutrition.com for details.
